So what is it about the show that’s such a hook for the audience? I would say it’s EXCITEMENT: The sword fights, war heroes, the sex, the nakedness, the intrigue, the feeling that anything can happen (even the death of main character in first episode). We can certainly indulge in these elements, for a little escape from reality into fantasy world where can be the part of adventure! But the show runs deeper than just fantasy escapism, and hits us on all kinds of other levels. After all, it asks us to get intimately acquainted with the characters, their histories, and their motivations, while simultaneously teaching us that we have no idea what’s going on at all. And who can resist that kind of delightful manipulation?

  •  It’s aimed to adults: Game of Thrones is aimed squarely at adults, and it is not campy, self-referential, or comical. It basically does what serious science fiction and fantasy have always done, functioning as a symbolic commentary on the main social and political issues of the day. In other words, it’s definitely not for the little ones, and even an adult audience has to stay on their toes to follow all the plotlines and innuendos.

  • Political problems of the day: Game of Thrones addresses the very controversial social and political problems, such as racism, in an indirect way. Game of Thrones is one of the most successful shows in utilizing world building.

  • Interesting characters: The Characters in game of thrones are very complex and diverse. It’s very easy for a person to find a character he can relate to in the show because of the wide diversity of characters. Characters have also complex personalities and this makes them more relatable.

  • Love of violence: One of the unconscious elements behind loving war movies and violent games is the love for violence and gore. Game of the thrones has a shocking amount of violence that appeals to violence fans.
